My journey experience to US!

  • Address on suitcases should be the one which u’ll be reaching here, rather than ur addr in India.
  • In the journey, try to wear denim wear, unless u’re expecting someone here to pick u up, right from the airport, if you're travelling in winter and/or to East coast.
  • While booking the air ticket itself, u should quote ur choice for veg or non-veg that is going to be served in the flight.
Remember that, even after getting into flight, u can ask them to serve what ever u want (like what I did), but then it depends on ur luck. If there is something left out what u want, they’ll give u, otherwise, take it easy!
  • Remember to get some stuff like chapathis, lemon rice, etc that’ll stay for a day or two, to eat on the way and immediately after landing here. More over, they won’t get spoiled in this weather conditions.
  • Thru out ur journey, when ever u’re changing flight, u should always remember the gate and terminal number very carefully. Terminal is something like a building in which, more than one (usually above 50 gates in US) gate will be there. A gate is something like a platform in a railway station. Terminal is also called as Concourse in some airports.
  • Never hesitate to ask the air hostess for anything that u feel like having, of course, only eatables :-) I feel that, orange juice (with or without lemon) is preferred than apple juice. BTW, I’m talking about poor vegie chaps like me :-(
  • Try to take more fluids in the journey and just before the journey, as it’ll reduce ur jet lag after coming here. Juice with less ice is preferrable.
  • In the long international journeys, they give socks to wear on ur socks (as u’ll be roaming around in the flight, with ur shoe off). You can get them out with u and they are actually cannot be reused by them!
  • U try to carry ur walkman in ur cabin baggage WITHOUT batteries. U carry 2 pairs of batteries in ur waist pouch. If the customs pple want, they’ll ask u to throw out the batteries and u can always do that. But, without a walkman or some good books to read, u feel damn bored in the flight journey, which can be for around 12 to 14 hrs in a single stretch.
  • Just before landing in any country, they announce the local time and don’t forget or ignore to correct ur watch accordingly. Otherwise, u’ll be in a serious trouble while catching ur connecting flights.
  • Try to have at least 2 hrs of time between connecting flights, if it’s going to be ur first air journey.
  • To make a local call here, u need to insert 35 cents in the public phone for the calls with the same area code (within 12 miles radius) or 75 cents for a call of 3 mins anywhere in US. Try to come with required change. You cannot use any denomination to make a call other than 25c,10c and 5c. Remember, the phone will not give any change after the call is made. But, you can get your money back by pulling the "Coin Release" lever if the call was not successful.
  • After landing here, there is no such concepts like, cab drivers (taxi) taking u around the city for more fare and like that. For any place, it’s a fixed thing and u can ask them about the appx charge he is going to take from u, before getting into it. If u’ve one to pick u up, that’s no probs!
  • Don’t worry about the temp in the flight. It’ll be maintained at very much normal.
  • Some pple said that, they felt like applying cold cream in the flight, but I didn’t. It’s upto u, to carry a cold cream in the cabin baggage.
  • In the flight, seat numbers would be in a different style. It’d be something like 10F, where 10 is the row number and F is the seat number (unlike ours in theatres, quite reverse).
